Where we come from

From chief engineer to founder
After working in the confectionery industry for many years, including as chief engineer at VanCamp Chocolate, Jim Halliday had a unique understanding of the challenges facing manufacturers. His interest in finding better ways of doing things has seen him work across industries all over the world, and his penchant for pushing the boundaries has cemented Jim’s status as a leading confectionary innovator.
By establishing PTL, Jim created a way of working that still exists today – our high-quality machinery still focuses on simplifying operations and improving efficiency. Through adaptability, technical innovation and a love of all things chocolate, PTL is now one of the world’s top bar and chocolate machinery brands.
The second generation
Nick Halliday started working at PTL 18 years ago, but he's been immersed in the business ever since he can remember. After completing a business degree and gaining international experience, Nick brought fresh perspective to the family business. His overseas work experience provided crucial training in sales and customer service, where he helped even the most challenging customers achieve their goals.
Nick eventually took over from Jim as PTL's CEO and hasn't looked back. Today, he actively shapes industry standards through his involvement in the NCA and PMCA, and serves as a guest lecturer at the University of Wisconsin Madison bar course.
What’s next for us
Under Nick's strategic leadership, PTL has accelerated innovation, delivering breakthrough technologies like the Melter V20 or PTL’s cooling tunnels, which solve urgent food safety needs.
"It's my job to make decisions that will ensure we're still just as innovative in thirty-five more years," Nick emphasizes. His roadmap focuses on anticipating market shifts, investing in emerging technologies, and maintaining PTL's position as a trusted and agile partner to multinational chocolate and bar manufacturers.
